Young Woman's Passion For Animals Gives Her A Big Idea
She came up with a creative fundraiser that will save the lives of 40 homeless animals!
Christianna Reynolds is passionate about animals. She's a senior at Cuba-Rushford High School in Cuba, NY, and she's been volunteering at her local no-kill animal rescue since she was in 8th grade. She decided she wanted to do something special before she heads off to college, so, unbeknownst to shelter founder Joye Turock, she created a beautiful calendar. The Olean Times Herald reports, after marketing it to family, friends, and teachers Christianna was able to raise $1200 for the Joyful Rescues shelter!

“It was amazing, we didn't know she was doing this," Joye told
. “We were totally shocked." Joyful Rescues focuses on rescuing animals from what they call "high kill" shelters in other parts of the country. It costs them $500 per trip, where they're able to rescue 10-15 animals. So Christianna's gift has the potential to save the lives of 40 animals.
“Somebody needs to be the voice for defenseless animals." --Christianna Reynolds.
The fundraising calendar features photographs of the gorgeous state parks in the Cuba and Olean region, taken by Christianna's mother who is a lanscape photographer. “My inspiration was my cat Lucy, who we adopted from Joyful Rescues," Christianna told WIVB. "She was on one of those save transports last spring, and knowing that she could have been put down just absolutely broke my heart and I knew I had to prevent other animals from being in that situation."
While the calendars are no longer for sale, you can donate to Joyful Rescues (
), or if you live in the area, adopt one of their animals. And we can all take a page from Christianna, who felt passionate about helping, and then did something to #StartSomethingGood. Why not you too?
