Young Democrats Hosting Candidate Forum
YDAC to offer recommendations in local races.
Young Democrats of Allegheny County want to hear from local candidates before they offer their official recommendation ahead of the 2019 primaries.
This Sunday, February 10, the YDAC will hold a candidate forum from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m at the Wilkinsburg Borough Chamber. Candidates will submit answers to a written questionnaire, before meeting with members at the forum.
After the forum, the YDAC will vote on official recommendations ahead of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee's endorsements in March. Only dues-paying members will be eligible to vote.
There was a surge in turnout amongst young voters in the midterm elections last year. According to U.S. News & World Report , 31 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 casted ballots in the 2018 midterm elections , a more than 10 percent increase from the 2014 midterm elections.
While there are no federal or statewide races this year, seats on the ballot include county council, county controller, county executive, county district attorney, county treasurer and magisterial district judges . The statewide primary will be held on May 21, 2019. The general election is on November 5, 2019.
