Young Cancer Survivor Raises Funds to Buy Play Sheets for Children's Hospital

When she saw how much the sheets helped her when she was sick, she knew she had to give other kids a chance to enjoy them.

Long hospital stays can be boring, especially for children. Hannah Allen knows this all too well. The third grader was treated for leukemia last year, so the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Naples, ME became a home-away-from-home for her and her family.

To help make her daughter more comfortable during that time, and provide a much-needed distraction, Hannah's mother, Jessica, bought some brightly colored sheets with games on them to keep Hannah busy during treatments.

Here's a quick video about the sheet sets from a toddler specialist at Metro Health in Michigan:

"It kind of brightens up your room," Jessica told WMTW-TV . "They're colorful, there's a lot to do on them."

The play sheets are made by a company called "Playtime Edventures," and Jessica and Hannah came up with the idea to give other kids in the hospital the opportunity to enjoy them.

"I asked her what she thought of other kids having those sheets," Jessica told WMTW-TV. "And did she think they would have fun, too. And she said, 'Yes!'"

Hannah also has down syndrome, but her mother says that hasn't stopped her from being an active part of their fundraising efforts. She created a Facebook page called "Hannah Warrior Princess" to share news of her daughter's progress, and also to let people know how they can help purchase play sheets for the hospital.

They've already hosted several fundraisers and Hannah has been able to deliver dozens of sheet sets to sick kids. Jessica said that delivering the sheets to Barbara Bush Hospital is Hannah's favorite part.

"When she walked into the hospital on our first delivery, she was very proud to hand over the cards we had made."

Hannah's leukemia is currently in remission, and her mother says she's doing great. And yes, she still has a set of play sheets on her bed at home.

Be sure to follow the Hannah Warrior Princess Facebook page to learn about upcoming fundraising events. Or, if you would like to purchase a set of sheets, check out the Playtime Edventures website for ordering information.
