Kindness During Crisis

Work Begins Making 10,000 Sandwiches For Monday Giveaway

Oakmont Bakery owner Marc Serrao takes you behind the counter where they're slicing the meat for this big event.

Hey folks, a quick update for you on the huge effort to make 10,000 sandwiches and get them to people who need them. It's all coming together lightning-quick thanks to Eric Chaffin and his team from the Chaffin Luhana Foundation and my man, Marc Serrao. He's the owner of the Oakmont Bakery where just about everything is taking place. In fact, today, he made this video to show you what's happening in the kitchen.

This really is a team effort. The Chaffin Luhana Foundation is paying for the labor to get these sandwiches made, and some of the materials. Other businesses have stepped up as well... helping slice meat, donating cheese, lettuce, chips, milk. It's just amazing.

Here's the running list of other businesses and organizations that are helping out so far with discounts or donations:

***Please forgive if we've missed anyone in this growing list.***

How can you start something good?

There are two ways we are distributing the sandwiches on Monday, March 23rd:

  1. 412 Food Rescue: This wonderful organization is mobilizing its users to distribute 5,000 sandwiches to school children who don't have access to school provided lunches during the coronavirus crisis.
  2. Direct Pickup: There will be drive-up service in the parking lot at Oakmont Bakery where anyone can pick up a sandwich directly. Anyone can participate. One Sweet Street, Oakmont, PA 15139
