Will He or Won't He? Punxsutawney Phil Is Ready to Make His Prediction
Set your clock and join the folks at Gobbler's Knob Saturday, February 2. We've got the live stream details here.
With local temperatures making most of the U.S. feel more like Antarctica, we are pulling for Punxsutawney Phil this weekend, hoping he'll forecast an early arrival to spring.
Begun in the 1880's, the annual Groundhog's Day spectacle is expected to draw as many as 30,000 visitors to Punxsutawney, Pa, sextupling the population of this otherwise sleep town.
Over the years, Phil has used his prognosticating clout for fame and influence. He's met politicians (President Ronald Reagan, Governors Rendell and Corbett), movie stars (Bill Murray), and television personalities (Oprah Winfrey and Regis Philbin). Phil even vowed to impose 60 weeks of winter if, during Prohibition, someone didn't get him a drink. It's only fitting, then, that Pittsburgh-based Penn Brewery whips up a batch of Punxsutawney Pilsner for the occasion.
Thinking about a road trip to Punxy to get in on the fun? Make The Groundhog Club your first stop for more information. Not able to be there in person? Watch the livestream as Phil is awakened from his slumber to make his annual prediction. Festivities get underway at (yawn!) 5:45a.m and will continue to be livestreamed until 8:30a.m. If you prefer to sleep in, you can always find Phil's forecast on Twitter.
