Football Star's Random Act Makes Little Girl's Christmas

Little did he know when he met her how much she needed his act of kindness. The look on her face is priceless!

When you do a random act of kindness, you don't always know who you're helping. That was the case for Pittsburgh Steelers star wide-receiver Ju Ju Smith-Schuster who stopped by a Walmart Saturday to purchase Christmas gifts for local children. "About to surprise some kids with some gifts for the holidays!" he tweeted along with video of a line of carts full of toys.

While he was there, Smith-Schuster met an 8-year old girl named Alyssa and offered to buy her a Barbie Dream House. Watch as her jaw drops in amazement. "You would actually do that," she asks incredulously. Watch as Smith-Schuster nods and says "Come on, there's like 85 surprises in here!" as he loads the box onto his shoulder and starts walking toward the check out:

The look on the girl's face is priceless. Little did Smith-Schuster know when he was buying the dollhouse that Alyssa is someone who could use some childlike joy right now. Her mother Jess Rush posted afterwards on Facebook that Alyssa suffers from Chronic Kidney Disease, or CKD, a condition charcterized by gradual loss of kidney function over time, according to the National Kidney Foundation .

Alyssa was born with a right kidney that never developed, and other medical issues that threaten the health of her left kidney. In her short life she's had three major surgeries, and the sometimes painful effort to get her healthy consumes the family's lives.

"She's a warrior, and fights her butt off. And so many of you prayed for her," wrote Rush. "2 days ago she had a tough appointment at the hospital. 48 hours later an angel was sent her way" in the form of Smith-Schuster. Rush went on to point out that even though Smith-Shuster didn't know Alyssa or what she's suffered through "...he brightened her day more than he even realized. Her Christmas was made!"

While none of us is a sports star, we all have the ability to do a kindness for someone else. Who knows, maybe the person you help will be someone who needed a boost at that exact time? So don't think twice, do something nice for someone today and #StartSomethingGood!
