Update: Whitehall Boy's Golf Swing Compared to Jon Daly's
He didn't win the national Drive, Chip & Putt Finals Finals, but people took notice!
Nine-year-old Michael Quallich of Whitehall didn't win the Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, but this fourth-grader sure got some attention. With a steady rain falling over Augusta National, Michael wowed some observers with his drives. In fact, Golf.com posted video of Quallich smashing the ball during the 7-9 year-old driving competition and one writer compared his swing to pro John Daly!
Here's the story we posted last week about how Michael beat out hundreds of other players to become one of only 10 boys his age to make the finals, despite never having taken a golf lesson in his life.
2019 Drive, Chip & Putt National Finals Leader Board
At Sunday's finals Michael and the other players got a chance to rub elbows with the likes of golf pros Bubba Watson, Mark O'Meara, Gary Player, Nick Faldo and Nancy Lopez. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, one of the first of 2 women ever admitted to Augusta National Golf Club, was there to congratulate the players.
Competitors can compete in the Drive, Chip & Putt program up until age 15. Chances are we'll see Michael there again!
