UPDATE: Success! Geri's New Kidney Is Already Working

Here's how the weekend of events went down via text message and video updates from Geri Whalen and her sister Sondra Hathaway

If you've been following Geri Whalen's journey here on Sparkt, you know that she's been waiting for this for nearly three years. Over the weekend her family got the call that changes everything. Spoiler alert: the kidney is working! Geri is now recovering today following surgery. Here's a look at how everything transpired according to text message updates from Geri's sister Sondra Hathaway. It's a roller coaster of emotions that started Saturday evening.

The first message came at 6:08pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019:

Nearly 3 hours later, hope and prayers continue and then right at 11am they got the answer:

Two hours into the surgery Sondra gets an update from the transplant team:

After five hours of the operation comes the word everyone was praying for:

Three hours later everything went so well that everyone got to rest. Sondra and her family returned home to catch up on some sleep. She also shared this update around 10:45am:

The Sparkt team could not be happier or more supportive of this amazing family. This is the place where we want to remind folks that there are others like Geri out there waiting for someone to donate the miracle of life.
