UPDATE: Geri Is Getting A Kidney! Her Transplant Is Happening Anytime Now

We introduced you to Geri Whalen who's been waiting for a new kidney for nearly three years. Today her wait is over!

Folks, we have an amazing update for you. Right now while most of us are winding down our evenings or getting ready for bed one mom is getting ready to receive one heck of a gift... a new kidney! When I first introduced you to Geri Whalen she'd been on the waiting list for nearly three years already and was going through dialysis three days a week, every week.

In the last couple of hours she got the call her entire family has been praying for, there's a kidney and it's time. Her sister Sondra Hathaway just sent us this video from Geri as she prepares for the exhausting surgery ahead tomorrow.

Sondra is the one who first introduced us to Geri when she posted a plea for potential donors on Since that initial post and the stories we've done since, including a surprise Cake Walk from our friends at Oakmont Bakery, we know that several people have gone to Allegheny General Hospital to get tested to see if they were potential matches.

Marty Griffin surprises Geri with a Cake Walk to help get the word out about her need for a kidney transplant.

While the donors remain anonymous, it just shows you the impact people can make. Everyone who donates a kidney literally saves a life. You can't make much of a bigger impact than that and it's truly inspiring.

We will continue to follow up with Geri and her sisters and we'll bring you an update soon.
