Trash Collector Surprises 100-year-old Woman On Her Birthday

He gave her a gift she won't soon forget.

Sanitation worker Ben Bird and Dorothy "Mercy" developed an unlikely friendship over the past eight years. They would chat with each other every day that Ben collected her trash, and Ben teased her that if she lived to be 100 years old, he'd bring her a cake. So when Mercy recently turned 100, he kept his promise and personally delivered her a cake, complete with special candles. This happened in the UK, but once the video was posted to Reddit it went viral.

The video starts with Ben approaching Mercy's home with a cake and candles, already lit.

When Mercy opens her door, she is clearly overcome with emotion.

He proceeds to sing her 'Happy Birthday,' and urges her to blow out the candles.

When he tells her to "make a wish to live to 105," she's quick to snap back at him to "Shut up!" in the charming way that only elderly grandmas can.

The video ends with Ben cheering after Mercy blows out the candles.

We hope she enjoyed every bite of that cake - at 100, she deserves it!
