Support Our Troops With A Little Piece of Home For The Holidays

How you can help donate a Christmas tree to troops on active duty and their families.

As the holidays approach, many people are making plans to spend time with family and friends. It can be a tough time for military families with a loved one far away on active deployment, and families spending Christmas on a foreign military base.

Pennsylvania's Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding helps tag Christmas trees.

That's why states around the country are joining to help to make the season feel a little more like home for those on active duty, by participating in the Trees for Troops initiative. Trees for Troops is a national program that provides free, farm-grown Christmas trees to armed forces members and their families each holiday season. "The Christmas tree is a major symbol of the holiday season around the world," said Pennsylvania Maj. Gen. Anthony Carrelli in urging people to participate:

People in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey and Wisconsin can participate in the program this weekend by visiting a participating location and purchasing a tree for distribution to service members. Click here for a list of participating tree farms. If you can't make it to one of them this weekend, you can also donate to the cause by clicking here.

"During this season when we are focused on family, friends, and traditions, it's good to hit pause and appreciate our freedoms that are not free." --PA Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding.

The Trees for Troops program is part of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, a non-profit branch of the National Christmas Tree Association. Since 2005, Trees for Troops has provided more than 225,000 Christmas trees to military families and troops in the United States and overseas.

Why not be part of this simple act of providing our troops and their families with a little piece of home, reminding them that we remember and appreciate their sacrifice!
