Students Win Video Contest, Learn About Cool Subject

Most middle school students probably aren't thinking about manufacturing and how interesting and important it can be. But these kids were, and they won an award for their effort

Students from 20 local school districts learned about the exciting things going on at local manufacturing companies, while competing for recognition and the chance to advance to a state competition in the "What's So Cool About Manufacturing" video contest. Top video-makers were announced at last night's Catalyst Connection Annual Manufacturing Reception at Heinz Field. That's Cornell Middle School, above, accepting their "Rookie School" award for excellence in a first-time entry.

Hundreds of manufacturers and industry supporters gathered at the event to network and promote our region's manufacturing community. They were joined by hundreds of students, parents and educators who participated in the video awards ceremony. The contest partnered student teams with a manufacturer in their neighborhood to produce a video profiling the company and featuring employees explaining what they love about their jobs.

Among the winners who will advance to the state competition were Norwin (above) who won the award for Outstanding Creativity for their video (a clever pseudo game-show) produced in partnership with Cleaveland Price , a Trafford company that manufactures products for the electrical industry. Here's a list of all the winners and the companies who worked with them to produce their videos. You can watch their videos by clicking here .
