Small Business Owner Pays It Forward

Some people could simply use a little encouragement. This is how one small business owner is trying to do just that!

At some point, everyone could use a pick-me-up. That's just what Andrea Storlie aims to do at her nail salon, Nail Ninja.

“I just want to help people in any way I can," said Storlie.

Nail Ninja opened two and half years ago because Storlie felt the need for freedom and personal value in her everyday work and wanted a positive work environment that rewards kindness.

Storlie's approach to conducting business is driven by her heart for others. The “pay it forward" program she runs for clients is evidence of this.

It's as simple as the name implies. Customers, friends of potential clients, or even total strangers can nominate others to receive an entirely free service appointment at Nail Ninja. The services that the nominee receives are paid for by a fund which other customers can contribute to. Many of the donors discovered the program through Nail Ninja's social media, it's not something Storlie or her employees mention in person. All donations made through Venmo carry the note “Pay it forward" and any amount is accepted. Some have given upwards of $100.

Storlie moved her business from a rental suite to a brand-new store located in St. Louis Park, MN in August 2019. Since then, Nail Ninja has received nearly $2000 in donations and provided complimentary service to over 30 different clients. Storlie has often covered the cost for “pay it forward" appointments when the fund doesn't do so. This is just another example of her heart for helping people.

Those who do receive the complimentary service have been nominated for a variety of reasons. Some have simply been swamped with work. Others have been going through one of life's rough patches. The reason for a client's nomination is not the central factor for Storlie, she simply wants to help.

If you are interested in paying it forward on behalf of a Nail Ninja customer, you can donate through their Venmo account, @NailNinjaMPLS
