Wasn't Even Close: Seneca Valley Wins Academic Decathlon

The school's Academic Decathalon team wins regional competition by nearly 4000 points, heads on to states.

There's winning, and then there's winning! Seneca Valley's Academic Decathlon Team placed first out of 14 other schools in the PA Western Regional Academic Decathlon Competition at Edinboro University, February 15-16.

It wasn't even close. The 20-member team won by almost 4,000 points, with students Katie Bablak and Rishin Sharma both taking home gold. The team is headed to the state Academic Decathlon competition in Carlisle in March.

The Academic Decathlon is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. The events require knowledge in many academic disciplines including art, economics, language and literature, math, music, science and social science. Some of the competition is multiple choice testing. There are also three subjective events graded by judges: essay, interview and speech.

Thanks to the SV Facebook page for the picture and good luck at states!
