See What One Woman is Doing to Meet Her Inspiration

You can help support her, and help homeless pets at the same time.

Becky McCrea is a big fan of Ellen DeGeneres. She also loves animals. She's combining her passion for both in an unusual way: she's trying to achieve a life-long dream of walking across America.

Becky, 45, started out from her home in Fennelton, PA, north of Pittsburgh, on May 18. She's walking to Burbank, CA, where Ellen tapes her daily talk show. Becky pledged to donate $1 for every mile she walks (or $2473) to Best Friends Animal Society , a no-kill animal shelter in Utah that's also a favorite of Ellen's. She's already surpassed her goal on her GoFundMe page .

Becky hopes by the time she and her dog Arnie arrive in Burbank, Ellen will have heard about their cross country trek and invite them on the show. "(Best Friends) is one of her charities," she told the Beaver County Times . "But there's no guarantee."

Arnie's along for the ride -- in the chase van!

As Becky explains on her GoFundMe page, she was recovering from knee surgery, watching 'Ellen' on TV with Arnie, when she had a crazy idea: how could she help support the two biggest inspirations in her life? "The only logical way was to walk to 'Ellen' and raise money for pets in need along the way," she wrote.

Adidas donated shoes to Becky, who has to change shoes every couple days.

Becky does have a chase van in case of emergency and for a place to sleep if there's not a motel nearby. She's gotten enough media attention that people in towns on her route are anticipating her arrival, coming out with food, water and lots of support.

"I've met so many wonderful people," Becky told the Times. "They want to hear what I'm doing and help." She also hopes her effort is inspiring others to do acts of kindness, or try something they've dreamed of doing. "You don't have to do something as extreme as I am!"

We'll keep you posted on Becky's progress, which will include a stop in Kanab, Utah, home of Best Friends Animal Society. She hopes to reach Burbank toward the end of August. We'll also let you know then whether she and Arnie get that 'Ellen' invite!
