Pastor and Stripper Join Forces to Raise Money for Charity

When they saw how families were suffering after the recent ICE raids, they knew they had to help.

A pastor and a stripper walk into a church - sounds like the start of a bad joke. But it's no laughing matter, really. Reverend Adam Ericksen and exotic dancer Dawn McCall have teamed up to raise money for the children who were left behind after a massive ICE raid in Mississippi.

When Ericksen, who is well known for the provocative messages he posts on his church's sign , and McCall connected on Facebook they talked about their mutual desire to do something to help the children who were displaced by the raids.

"It's traumatized babies, families," McCall, who goes by the stage name Blu Dawn, told The Oregonian . "A lot of us are mothers. None of them want to see this happening to kids."

McCall has been holding events at a vegan strip club in Portland to raise funds for the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance (MIRA), while Ericksen has been collecting donations from his congregation for the same organization. The duo has also teamed up with NYC artist Lauren Seeley to "sell t-shirts with all proceeds going to the charity." The shirts are printed with the hashtag #OurKids.

You can purchase an #OurKids t-shirt and all proceeds will go to MIRA.

While some members of Ericksen's church have called the pastor's new partnership "sinful," others are fully on board.

"My congregation is responding really well to it," Erickson told KOIN-6 . "They are excited about it. They have the same mission. When you hear Blu talk about her mission with Team Blu, it sounds like church."

While Ericksen and Blu Dawn have very different approaches when it comes to fundraising, their goal is the same.

"One of our goals in this is to show that people from totally different backgrounds can come together."

Ericksen continues, "And we hope that will inspire people in different religions, different backgrounds, can come together for a higher purpose.
