Parents Who Lost Their Son Find Peace from an Unexpected Act

The return of their son's lost GoPro camera gives them the answers they needed surrounding the events of his death.

After Richard Ragland drowned in a waterfall at a Tennessee park, his grieving parents were left to wonder how such a tragic accident could happen. That is, until an adventurous scuba diver found the man's GoPro camera at the bottom of the falls.

Richard Aloha is a You Tube vlogger who often records his dives to find abandoned "treasures." He picked up Ragland's camera when diving in the Forest Falls Recreation Area, the same place where Ragland lost his life in 2017.

"I strongly believe that God led me to this GoPro because the only thing I saw was the end tip of the thumb screw and everything else was just covered in muck," he told WSB-TV Atlanta .

Once Aloha uncovered the camera's SD card and watched the footage, he knew right away who the man was. After some research he found Ragland's parents in Sandy Springs, GA and last week he was able to return the card to them.

Footage on the SD cards shows a smiling Ragland zip lining through a forest.

Ragland's parents, who have been searching for the camera and SD card since his death, expressed their gratitude to Aloha for finding them and returning the footage.

"For him to go through his efforts to do his research, make numerous phone calls, he didn't give up until he got in touch with us and that means the world to us," his mother said.

While they haven't been able to watch all of the footage yet, they say what they have seen so far has been uplifting.

"What we've seen so far is Rich being Rich, living life to the fullest,' Ragland's mother said.

Ragland's parents say that when they're ready, they'll watch the last scenes on the card and find out exactly what happened the day of the accident. Until then, they can find comfort knowing their son's last moments were a reflection of how he lived his life - full of laughter, happiness and adventure.
