Mt. Lebanon Native Wins Oscar for Best Production Design

Hart wins for work in Black Panther.

Mt. Lebanon native Jay Hart took home the Academy Award for Best Production Design at the Oscars last night.

Hart won for his work on the mega-blockbuster Black Panther , which was nominated for seven awards and won three. He shares the award with fellow set designer Hannah Beachler. Beachler was the first African American woman to be nominated in the category.

Unfortunately, Hart did not get to give a live thank you speech during the ceremony, but he gave some emotional remarks backstage. Along with thanking his husband, friends and colleagues, Hart thanked Black Panther director Ryan Coogler for his depiction of the fictional country of Wakanda, "painting a picture of a country rich in, and embracing of, diversity."

You can watch Hart's full remarks here .

Hart has worked in the film industry for more than 25 years. He had previously been nominated for Best Production Design for L.A. Confidential (1997) and Pleasantville (1998).
