K-9 Officers Visit 7-year-old Dog Lover Battling Cancer

Emma Mertens had asked people to send pictures and notes from their dogs.

Last month, we told you about a brave little girl battling cancer, who wanted cards and pictures from your dog. This week we have a heartwarming update!

After receiving hundreds of thousands of letters, 7-year-old Emma Mertens was visited by the K-9 units of dozens of police departments at her home in Wisconsin.

Emma is battling a terminal brain tumor known as DIPG. According to CBS News, survival rates for the tumor are low and there is no known cure .

Emma's story went viral when her neighbor posted the requests for letters and doggie photos on Facebook and GoFundMe.

"I would guess that we have received 200,000 letters by mail, 250,000 emails and 50,000 Facebook messages," Geoff Mertens, Emma's father, told CBS News.

Well last weekend, officers showed up to the Mertens' home with more than 35 dogs! Emma was totally surprised by the visit, and you can see, Emma had a great time playing with and petting each of the dogs, who were all well-behaved.
