Jon Potter Named People Magazine Kindness Award Winner

Sparkt contributor's story makes People's first-ever edition dedicated to people being kind.

Sparkt viewers know Mr. Good Deeds, Jon Potter, from his stories about his good deeds here on the website. Exploits like climbing 40 foot ladder to get a guy's emotional support cat out of a tree, or bringing happiness and relief with his work as a handyman. Now everyone knows about him!

Jon is featured in this week's People Magazine , which is all about people going out of their way to be kind to others. We kinda think the fact that he donated one of his kidneys to a stranger might have gotten their attention!

Jon's feature appears in the 11/18/19 edition with Chip & Joanna Gaines on the cover

Jon's story of selflessness and the joy it brings him is getting national attention, not just in People. He was featured on CBS Sunday Morning and he recently appeared on the Tamron Hall Show.

That's where we got a chance to meet Jon's wonderful wife Rachel and hear how she handles her husband's passion for doing good for others:

Also on the show, we got a chance learn more about the man that accompanies Jon on a lot of his calls through Jon's website, Pittsburgh Good Deeds . John Demirag was down to his last few dollars and advertised online to sell his cell phone. Potter responded, and even though the cell phone-sale didn't work out, he and Rachel lent Demirag half of their savings to get back on his feet:

Demirag says Jon's and Rachel's kindness to him was his call to pay it forward. Now he's working with Jon as kind of a "Mr. Good Deeds Jr."!

We all may not be able to dedicate our lives and livelihoods to performing acts of kindness like Mr. Good Deeds does. But on this World Kindness Day, there's no reason why each of us can't be more kind to others.

Give it a try and #StartSomethingGood!
