Hundreds Volunteer To Install Free Furnaces In "One Day Miracle"
What do more than 200 volunteers have in common on a cold January day? They're all working together to warm hearts and homes installing free furnaces.
This is one of those stories that brings a smile to your face and tears to your eyes. The day started before the sun came up. More than two hundred volunteers assembled at TUDI Mechanical Systems headquarters in McKees Rocks, PA to kickoff the company's annual "One Day Miracle". It's the day their Heat For The Needy program installs furnaces and heating systems for a people who truly need the help.
This isn't just a one-time deal. Bob Tudi started this annual mission to give back 21-years ago. As his crews were fanning out to help a dozen different households, he stopped to chat with me about why does this and what it means to him and his employees.
After my chat with Bob, it was time to head out and see his people in action. We decided to visit 83-year-old Elizabeth Armocida who shares a home in Wilkinsburg with her son, Anthony, who is battling a rare form of brain cancer.
The team at TUDI will start taking nominations for next year's program beginning in September.
