Girl With Brain Tumor Wants Letters From Your Dog

Emma Mertens, age 7, has received thousands of letters and pictures from around the world.

A 7-year-old girl in the fight of her life has a very special request for you--she wants a letter from your dog!

Emma Mertens was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor known as DIPG last month. Her parents say she loves dogs, and since her request for letters went viral she's received more than 50,000 pictures and messages. The Mertens live in Wisconsin, and have received letters from as far away as Venezuela, South Africa and Scotland.

"If you knew Emma, she's the most kind, big-hearted girl," Geoff Mertens told Good Morning America . "To see so many people take a few minutes out of their day to put a smile on her face is overwhelming."

Messages left for Emma on GoFundMe.

A GoFundMe has also been started to help support Emma's family with medical expenses. Supporters are also sharing photos of their pups there to help brighten Emma's spirits. If you want to help support Emma, you can write to her at:

"The thing that brings Emma joy is seeing dogs, interacting them," Kelly Zimmerman, the Mertens' neighbor, told GMA. "It's a devastating diagnosis but seeing her smile in present day and seeing those moments has carried the hope for the family."

Emma is currently undergoing treatment at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. A message posted on the GoFundMe pages says: "We are not going to stop seeking a cure for Emma. Please keep praying for a miracle."
