Geri's Tells Me Her Donated Kidney Is Working Great!
Could you imagine not going to pee for nearly 3 years? That's changed and things are flowing great for Geri and her new kidney.
Hey folks, I finally got a chance to catch up with Geri Whalen following her kidney transplant. If you haven't heard, she was waiting on that kidney for the last three years and had zero kidney function, none. Three days a week during all that time, she had to endure 4 hour sessions while dialysis machines cleaned her blood. She came on KDKA Radio with me to give us an update on how she's doing.
Check out this post from Geri on her Facebook wall. It's a message to everyone who's been following her journey and to the family of the woman whose sacrifice gives Geri the gift of life.
Geri's sister, Sondra Hathaway, first introduced us just a few months ago. She was trying to get the word out about Geri's need, and the need for nearly 100,000 just like her across the United States.

They are all waiting for word that a kidney is available, but the donors don't show up every day. What many people don't realize is that they can get tested to see if they're a match for someone in need. Find out how you can get involved with the resources below.

There is another need for Geri and her family and that part is financial. For the next three months she cannot work. She's not even allowed to lift more than ten pounds at a time. She also has a litany of medications and follow up doctors appointments ahead. That's why her mother-in-law setup a donation drive to help out.
