Free Produce for Seniors at PA Farmers Markets

Senior citizens in Pennsylvania, there's now no excuse for not eating and enjoying freshly grown fresh fruits and vegetables, even if you can't afford them! The state is offering up to $20 for people 60 and older to buy locally grown produce at Farmers Markets this summer.

Qualifying seniors can get up to $20 in vouchers for fresh, locally grown produce.

The state's Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides low income seniors with checks that can be used at one of more than 1000 authorized Farmers Markets and roadside stands.

In Allegheny County/Pittsburgh, the checks (four $5 checks totaling $20) will be distributed on Tuesday, June 11 on a first come, first served basis. To be eligible, you have to be an Allegheny County resident; be age 60 or older before December 31, 2019; not live in a residential facility providing meals; and meet income requirements ($23,107 annual gross income for a one-person household and $31,284 for a two-person household).

Vouchers are good until the end of open-air farm market season.

If you're eligible but can't get to a senior center or Farm Market distribution, you can designate a proxy to pick up and redeem your checks. Click here for the full list of Allegheny County distribution locations, or call the SeniorLine at 412-350-5460.
