Former Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial cartoonist Rob Rodgers is releasing a book, less than a year after he was fired by the paper.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist says the paper spiked a series of his cartoons critical of President Donald Trump in 2018. Rogers was fired in June--a story that spread on social media and got national attention, from outlets including CNN and The New York Times . He had worked at the Post-Gazette for 25 years.
According to the IDW Publishing, Rogers' upcoming book Enemy of the People: A Cartoonist's Journey features "political cartoons over the last three years, his coverage of past presidents, a tutorial on creating editorial cartoons and two long-form comics."
"Satire is the ultimate expression of free speech," says Rogers on his website. "It reminds us that we live in a healthy democracy. But we are living in a time like no other in our country's history, a time when the media is under attack, a time of extreme partisanship. We need satire and editorial cartoons more now than ever."
