Feeding the Flock Ministries vs. Harmar Township
Food Ministry denied occupancy of 490 Nixon Road, Cheswick, PA 15024
Feeding the Flock Ministries, a Christian outreach ministry has been denied occupancy of the building located at 490 Nixon Road, Cheswick, PA 15024.
Feeding the Flock Ministries began over 20 years ago as street ministry traveling around Western Pennsylvania feeding and supporting various Christian community outreach programs. They fed the volunteers and the people of the community attending the events. They have now reorganized and will be operating from a central location of 490 Nixon Road.
The mission statement is to feed the mind, body, and soul of the residents of the Allegheny Valley, Highlands, Deer Lakes, and Fox Chapel school districts. We will accomplish this through weekly distribution of fresh produce, vegetables, meat, and dry goods as well as other household items needed. We will also offer weekly bible/worship services for the public to attend. Local churches and Christian organizations have partnered with us to work together in programs to benefit the local communities.
Harmar Township has stated that they do not recognize us as a house of worship/church, which is necessary under the current zoning of R2. They have also stated that even if we are recognized as a house of worship, food distribution will not be permitted.
We are hoping that the communities will show their support of us at the appeal hearing scheduled for February 28th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Harmar township borough building, 701 Freeport Road, Cheswick, PA 15024.
