Don't Miss an Opportunity! Week 1 Recap

Did you miss any of our great volunteer opportunities in week 1 of Sparkt's 25 Days of Volunteering? Here's a recap.

Here's hoping you had a great week, and you found a way to give a little bit of yourself back to your community. If you're still looking for a great volunteer opportunity and missed our first week of "25 Days of Volunteering" (Sparkt's picks for some of our favorite ways to volunteer), here's a recap:

Saturday 12/1

Charity Gift Wrapping : Volunteer to staff a gift wrap table at The Mall at Robinson and The Galleria Mt. Lebanon and help homeless pets at Humane Animal Rescue's shelters.

Sunday 12/2

Jingle Bell Run : Sign up for a fun 5K/1 mile run/walk to benefit the Arthritis Foundation's efforts to cure arthritis, America's number one cause of disability. You can even come in costume!

Monday 12/3

Throw a Diaper Party: ask friends and family to bring packages of disposable diapers to your holiday get-togethers, then donate them to the Western Pennsylvania Diaper Bank. The diapers will be distributed to needy neighbors who can't afford them.

Tuesday 12/4

Treasures for Children : make sure a needy child gets the gift he or she was hoping for this Christmas by volunteering to help the Salvation Army sort and distribute toys donated through their Treasures for Children program.

Wednesday 12/5

Operation Troop Appreciation Donation Table : volunteer to help staff the OTA table at the Mall at Robinson on Sundays in December. Volunteers will collect household and personal items for veterans and active duty military.

Thursday 12/6

North Hills Community Outreach Bell Ringing : volunteer to ring the red-kettle bell at the Walmart in Gibsonia and the Kuhn's in Hampton. As a Salvation Army unit, NHCO shares in the money they collect with their volunteers on duty.

Friday: 12/7

Global Links : volunteer to sort and repackage excess medical supplies from local hospitals to benefit communities that need them, and keep those items out of landfills.

Happy volunteering! And if you do try one of Sparkt's suggested volunteer activities, we'd love it if you'd sign on an post your story and some pictures under the "Celebrate" section of our website!
