Dashcam Captures Trooper Helping With Emergency Landing
See a trooper's quick actions as a plane makes an emergency landing
In his 21 years as a police officer, Trooper Clint Thompson has seen a lot of things but this one was new. As he was patrolling a state highway in Spanaway, Washington he notices something unusual coming the opposite direction above the traffic.
WSP Trooper Clint Thompson saw the plane coming and immediately made a u-turn on a busy highway.
It was an incoming plane, not a toy as he first thought, and it was getting ready to make an emergency landing. You can see the entire ordeal unfold on his dashcam video:
Witnesses and even the pilot credit the trooper's quick actions, following the plane and activating his emergency lights, that kept traffic away and prevented accidents from taking place. Thompson told KING-TV what happened when he approached the pilot who was still in the cockpit like any other driver on the road:
"You kind of knock on the window, like 'Sir, do you know what I pulled you over for?" - Trooper Clint Thompson
Yes, he literally knocked on the cockpit. Pilot David Acklam thanked the trooper afterwards for helping make his emergency landing a safe one for evreryone. Apparently he had some sort of fuel system malfunction.
Trooper Thompson (left) even helped pilot David Acklam (Right) push the KR2 experimental plane off of the highway.
Once the plane was pushed off of the highway, with the trooper's help (as seen above and in the video), and into the parking lot of a JiffyLube.
The wings were removed and it was eventually placed on a flatbed truck and hauled away. Altogether there were no injuries, and zero damage to the plane. So there is plenty to celebrate here, especially the quick actions of the pilot and the trooper that combined for a happy outcome and lots of stories to share from everyone involved.
