College Students Raise Over $6K To Buy Dining Room Attendant A Car

When they found out that she was saving up for a down payment, they sprang into action.

A group of sophomores at High Point University in North Carolina say that seeing Ebony Macon at the Farmers Market restaurant in the school's dining room always brightens their day.

"Ebony is the epitome of happiness, kindness and love," Curt Walker, one of the students, told FOX-8 . "She doesn't just work at Farmers Market, she makes High Point University home, and I believe that's something amazing."

The students talk with Macon as they wait for their lunches to be prepared every day (Macon manages the Stir Fry station). That's how they found out that she was saving up for a new car. Macon and her mother work two jobs each day, seven days a week, and she wanted to get a reliable mode of transportation to get her back and forth.

As they were eating dinner that evening, the group decided they wanted to do something to help Macon out. One of the students, Abby Wood, started a GoFundMe page with instructions to keep the campaign a secret. So far, they've raised over $6,000 and are hoping to reach their goal of $8,500.

"Ebony always has the best attitude and never fails to put a smile on our face," sophomore Luke Ivey said.

On Friday, the group of students presented Macon with a check for $6,000 in the school's dining hall.

"I was overwhelmed with joy," Macon said. "We have conversations all the time and talk about our struggles. I had no idea that God put this in their hearts, to listen and take action to make something happen. I thank God for these students and their kindness."

For the students, it's a small price to pay to help a woman who treats them like family.

"When you appreciate someone, I believe it is important to show that appreciation," Walker said. "No matter how hard of a day I've had, walking into the Farmers Market and seeing Ebony will brighten my day."

Thanks to the kindness of HPU students and others, we're sure that Macon will be getting a new set of wheels very soon.
