If you're trying to plan a summer getaway and unplug for a little while, local and regional camping destinations are receiving top marks.
Here's the full list:

2. Allegheny National Forest, PA
3. St. Louis, MO
4. Minneapolis, MN
5. Ozark National Forest, AR
6. Chattanooga, TN
7. Finger Lakes, Buffalo, Rochester, NY
8. Blue Ridge Parkway, NC, VA, TN
9. Grand Junction, CO
10. Columbus, OH

Columbus, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Finger Lakes, regional sites within a short drive, also made the top ten.
According to Hipcamp, camping is gaining in popularity. The site says an estimated 7 million new households have started camping in the last five years, and those camping 3 or more times per year has increased by 72 percent.
So whether you want to "rough it" and pitch a tent or explore the wilderness with an RV or "glamping," this summer is a great time to join the national trend.
