Boy With A Cleft Lip Finds A Best Friend Just Like Him
His dad went to a local animal shelter looking for something else, and instead found the perfect addition to his family.
It's not uncommon for humans to choose a dog that resembles them. Perhaps it's because we tend to connect with what's familiar. Or, maybe we just like looking in the mirror a bit too much! Either way, choosing a dog is an important milestone for any family, and not a task to be taken lightly.
Luckily, for the Boyers family, the choice was essentially made for them when they visited an animal shelter in their hometown of Jackson, Michigan. Dad, Brandon Boyers went to the shelter to adopt a few chickens when a black-and-white puppy at the shelter caught his eye.
The pup has a cleft lip, just like Boyers' son, Bentley. Bentley was born with the condition, which made his early years a struggle. His family recalls needing to hold his lips together to feed him when he was a baby.

Once they saw the puppy with a similar condition, they knew they had to take her home, so Bentley could see that he's not alone.
"To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot because he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common," Bentley's mother Ashley Boyers told WILX-TV.
While it's rare for dogs to be born with a cleft lip, the caretakers at the shelter don't think the puppy will have any problems as she grows.
"Her disability is really not holding her back," one of the clinicians at the Jackson County Animal Shelter said. "She might look a little different than a normal dog would, but it's not going to slow her down."

The shelter shared a few photos on their social media page on the day the adoption was made official, saying Bentley and his new best friend "instantly loved each other."
"It's so hard to put into words how meaningful this adoption is to all of us, so we are going to let the pictures speak for themselves," they wrote. "We wish many years of joy as this special pair grows up together!"
The post was shared thousands of times and folks from all over the country commented on the new super cute duo.
"That little boy is precious," one person wrote. "So glad he found just the right forever friend."
