A local boy set a Western Pennsylvania youth bowling record. Alex Smith, a 16-year-old student at Franklin Regional High School, had the bowling series of his life, recording a combined score of 879.
Smith threw two 300 games in a row, the first two of his career, followed by a 279 game. The amazing moment occurred at Nesbits Lanes in Plum.
A score of 879 in bowling is an incredibly rare achievement, which according to the United States Bowling Congress , only 5 other youth bowlers have ever reached. Only a handful of bowlers have surpassed that, including two with a perfect 900.
