Bending Over Backwards to Get a Fresh Start in 2019

Fitness goals might be the most cliche New Years Resolutions on the books, but I'm here for it.

It's 6:00 am and I'm already running late for my first yoga class in 5 years. I signed up for the level-2 flow (for intermediate practitioners) and am starting to regret it; I'm sure I'll fall over and knock down everyone in my row like dominoes. I haven't gone shopping for workout gear in a while, and

I can't find my cute-but-over-priced yoga outfit that I've only worn to the beach. Is it *still* in the dirty laundry, I wonder? So, I throw on my trusty 10-year-old basketball shorts

and an off-brand sports bra, grab the yoga mat my cat has nearly shredded to death, and head out the door.

It's still dark, and even though I'm taking a #yogaislife selfie, I really just want to go back to bed.

I park down the street from the studio and see a group of bright-eyed friends skipping (well, not really skipping) inside. How do they have so much energy before 7am? I shovel the last bit of a banana into my mouth. I hate eating this early and feel my stomach turn.

Inside, soft music is playing and we begin to flow. My nerves melt away as I remember that no one cares what I look like, or how flexible I am, or whether my left eye is more closed than my right eye because I'm not fully awake yet.

I know this, I smiled to myself mid-way through a shaky Eagle Pose. I got this. It's a fresh start, and I feel great. I set my alarm for 5:45 the next morning, and tell my new friends I'll see them tomorrow.
