Bad Parking Drives Facebook Page's Popularity
One man's posts of terrible park jobs in his town attracts photos from all over.
I'm a bad parker. Just ask my family and friends. I'm the kind of parker who returns to find notes on my windshield, like the one, where, after seeing my park-job and the college decal on my car, someone scrawled "If you were smart enough to go to Allegheny College, you should be smart enough to park better!"
That's why Tom Moses' Facebook page gave me hope that maybe there are much, much worse people than me when it comes to parking. I thought Sparkt readers might get a laugh, and might want to join him on bad-parking-patrol.
Wow. Handicap and "no parking" space at the same time!
Tom is from Lower Burrell, Pa. He started a Facebook page called Bad Parking in the AK-Valley to call out his parking-challenged neighbors. AK-Valley stands for the Alle-Kiski Valley, north east of Pittsburgh, an area named for the Allegheny and Kiskiminetas rivers that run through it.
Tom's premise is simple: take pictures of bad parking, post them, poke fun or vent about them, and invite others to do the same.
"They're everywhere!" wrote this poster.
Bad Parking in the AK-Valley is making Tom somewhat of a local celebrity. And he's ruthless. "Nobody escapes me taking a picture. Not even my 86-year-old mother," Tom told the Valley News Dispatch .
"Pulled right over the blue curb when he left!" wrote the poster from Sarasota, Fl.
As word has spread, Tom's getting poor parking posts from people who don't even live in Pennsylvania. There are pictures on the site from Myrtle Beach, Florida, Kentucky, even as far away as Colorado.
People parking poorly in Colorado.
Tom says he's not trying to be mean. He just thinks there's too much negativity on social media, and he's trying to make people smile.
And, so he hears from friends, he's also making people park better. "They flat-out say, 'I'm worried I'm going to get caught by you, so I make sure I park good," he told the Valley News.
Poster Lynn: "One of these days my husband's photo is going to be there."
