ATU Turkey Drive Right In Time For the Holidays!
#ATU kicks off the holiday season by giving away ONE THOUSAND free turkeys!
By 6am, many residents had already begun forming a line along Library Street in Braddock, PA, a town right outside of Pittsburgh. Right in time for the holidays, 1,000 families were blessed with a free turkey and a bag filled with sides, courtesy of Athletic Trauma Unit, or ATU, a non-profit dedicated to a healthier community. Under the coordination of founder Chris 'Steel' Edmonds, and organizer Kathy Fitzgerald, dozens of volunteers gathered in the Niya Page Basketball Courts in the early morning, bundled up and ready to work on Tuesday! Before the gates opened, they unloaded turkeys and canned goods, packed bags and passed out hot coffee and donuts to those in line.
ATU teams up with local radio station WAMO each year to kick off the holiday season with this awesome event; and each year residents of Braddock and surrounding areas leave with a frozen bird and some holiday smiles. Edmonds says its one of his favorite annual events and he's always happy to see so many people of all walks of life come together for something good!
Some of the sponsors this year included Walmart, Metro PCS and CSL Plasma.
The next giving event on the list for ATU is the annual Toy Drive on December 17th, at the Rankin Christian Center, where a tasty holiday meal will be prepared and children will be gifted toys from Santa! An army of ATU volunteers have already been enlisted and are beyond excited for the event!
