Afraid to Eat Birthday Cake After Someone Blows Out the Candles? You've Gotta See This Life Hack!

Everyone's even more concerned about germs during the coronavirus pandemic. One woman's idea should put every birthday party goer at ease.

Eating birthday cake after someone has enthusiastically blown out all the candles can be a little dicey if you're concerned about germs. It's even more concerning during the coronavirus pandemic when we're doing everything possible to avoid being exposed to COVID-19..

Utulei Manu (R) came up with a creative solution to keep germs off a cake when the birthday celebrant blows out the candles!Utulei Rachel Manu/Tik Tok

It's probably why a TikTok video created by a woman in Washington state has gone viral. Utulei Rachel Manu calls it the ultimate birthday cake candle life hack, and after watching it, we have to agree, it's genius!

As of this writing, Manu's Tik Tok video had over 74,000 shares and lots of positive comments like 'This is an amazing idea, I will use this going forward,' and several who said they usually don't even eat birthday cake because they're worried about the germs. Others pointed out that the technique wouldn't work on a homemade cake.

Seems like we actually have reason to be skeptical of the safety of birthday cakes with the candles blown out. A 2017 study by researchers at Clemson University showed blowing out the candles on a birthday cake increases the bacteria in the icing by 1,400% Yikes!

Thanks to Manu's creativity -- and for sharing her idea with the rest of us so we can continue to enjoy our birthdays and our cakes without fear of making anyone else sick!
